FAQ

WHEN: Tuesday 31 October 2023, 10:30 to 17:30

WHERE: Henry Wellcome Auditorium, Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE

WHAT: The AI and Society Forum is an opportunity for changemakers, activists, campaigners and experts by experience to come together ahead of the UK Government’s AI Safety Summit to learn, share and commit to future action.

Join us to craft a set of recommendations for governments, industry and policymakers that put equity and justice at the top of the list for AI development and governance.

Expect to take part in discussions about the political, environmental and social impacts of AI and work together to create practical recommendations.

We’re putting this together quickly, so we’re asking people to sign up for notifications so we can share more information as we have it and make the event as inclusive and participatory as possible.

What topics will be covered?

We’re not sure yet, but expect discussions on the climate impacts of AI; justice; education; policing and borders; workers’ rights; democracy; good governance; misinformation; creativity; privacy and surveillance

What will happen on the day?

A mix of networking and unconference sessions with keynote talks and panels from leading voices in digital civil society.

Will it be livestreamed?

Probably not. We’re a small team, putting this event together really quickly, so we’re prioritising making the experience in the room as accessible and enjoyable as possible. When we’re confident that is in place, we’ll see if it’s possible to make the event hybrid, but most of the day will be an Unconference with lots of time built in to make connections and have conversations in the room; doing this well online is a whole other undertaking, and we don’t want to do it badly, so we’re going to deprioritise that for now and come to it if we have time. If we do decide to livestream, we’ll announce it via the newsletter.

How can I support the event?

We’re still working on some of the logistics, but we’ll let you know. We will hold at least one Community Call before the event, and will share details soon.

How big will it be?

The capacity of the event is 154.

Who is it for?

This is primarily a space for people who are already or want get more involved in making change. If you’d like to come to the event for research purposes, we’d ask that you hang back till the last set of tickets are released.

Who’s organising this?

Promising Trouble. We’re a social enterprise whose work puts community power at the heart of technology and innovation.

There will be BSL interpretation and live captioning on the day. We are working with an Inclusion Producer to ensure the event and the space it takes place in are accessible and inclusive. There will be a quiet space. Mask wearing is welcome.
